Children and Youth
This year the focus in our classrooms is on Jewish and Christian traditions
and the curricula for each class reflects this. Here are the curricula each
class is working with.
Nursery
Our Nursery is staffed by a paid Nursery specialist as well as a volunteer. In the Nursery toddlers start to learn some of our UU traditions such as "lighting" a felt and velcro chalice and learn to play fairly with others.
Super Heroes: Bible People (ages 4-7)
Our 4-7 age class is using a curriculum this year called Super Heroes: Bible
People. It is a values based curriculum that tells stories of notable figures from the bible in a way that young children can understand.
Jesus and His Kingdom of Equals (ages 8-11)
Our 7-11 age class is working with Jesus and his Kingdom of Equals focuses on Jesus the man and teacher. Most lessons focus on a story from the Bible, Jesus's words and deeds, and how they impacted the people around him.
Youth Group (ages 12-18)
Our Youth Group this year will be learning from Truth and Meaning Questions about the Western Religious Heritage of Unitarian Universalism. This curriculum focuses on read questions that UU teens have about interacting with peers of other faiths. For example "Are my friends right to call me an Atheist?" "How much of the Bible and Qur'an are actually true?" and "Why don't some religions accept gays, lesbians, and transsexuals?"
