Volunteer Opportunities - Committees
The ministry of the Society relies upon the congregation's members for its' success. Service on a committee or on the Board of Trustees is one important way that members make a contribution to the congregation's ministry. If you are interested in serving on a particular committee or would like to be consider for a place on the Board of Trustees please contact the Society's office and the Office Administrator will direct your interest.
Aesthetics
The Aesthetics committee helps to create a more visible and aesthetically pleasing building and finds ways to honor the artistic talents of our congregation's members. Nancy Simpson is the current chair.
Buildings and Grounds

The Buildings and grounds committee works with the congregation's Facilities Manager to maintain the building and landscape. The committee helps to coordinate bi-annual work parties. Brett Cohen is the current chair.
Community Building
The Community Building committee coordinates First Sunday Lunch, Circle Suppers and Coffee Hour. Mary Schatzman is the current chair.
Finance
The Finance committee works with the Treasurer to oversee the annual budget preparation. It also meets regularly to consider the long-term financial health of the congregation and the best investment strategies for the congregation's funds. The committee is without a current chair.
Green Sanctuary
The Green Sanctuary committee focuses on helping the Society and its members: explore what it means to live on an imperiled Earth; engage in more sustainable lives and practices; and work towards being better stewards of the planet. Pat Dillard and Ryan Sullivan are the committee's current co-chairs.
Membership
The Membership committee ensures that visitors feel welcome, provides information to newcomers and welcomes new members into the congregation. The committee works with the Membership Coordinator to staff the Sunday Welcoming Teams and to coordinate regular Newcomer Orientation. In the absence of a current chair, the Membership Coordinator convenes this committee.
Ministry
The Committee on Ministry works with the minister to promote the ministry of the congregation. It assists the congregation in understanding and evaluating congregation's ministry. Patrick Laughlin is the current chair.
Nominating
The Nominating Committee brings a slate of nominees for the Board of Trustees to the Annual Meeting. The chair rotates among members.
Pastoral Associates
The Pastoral Associates work directly with the minister to meet the pastoral needs of the congregation. Pastoral Associates visit, provide transportation and coordinate assistance to members of the congregation who are sick, shut-in, lonely or in need of assistance. Rachel Webb coordinate the program but if you would like to participate please speak with Rev. Bossen.
Religious Education
The Religious Education Committee works with the Director of Religious Education to oversee the congregation's religious education program. It helps with the program's design, assists in teacher selection and training, evaluates the program's successes and challenges and promotes the program to interested visitors. Ryan Byrd is the current chair.
Social Justice
The Social Justice Committee organizes and coordinates social action projects for the Society, publicizes and disseminates information on social action events and encourages the membership to support and involve themselves in social and community action. The committee is currently without a chair.
Stewardship
The Stewardship Committee works on projects to increase gifts of time, talent, and treasure. It organizes the annual every member canvass and nurtures year-round stewardship awareness within our congregation. Sarah Thuerk and Eric Wellman are the current co-chairs.
Worship Associates
The Worship Associates help lead worship on Sunday. Worship Associates do readings, ask for the offering, lead meditations, occasionally give homilies, make announcements and help with sermon research. As a team the Worship Associates also plan for four worship services each year. Applications for the program are considered in the spring. For more information contact Amy Collins.
