Covenant Groups
Covenant groups are small groups of no more than twelve members that meet at least monthly for spiritual practice, topical discussion and fellowship. There are currently two covenant groups meeting:
Root Beers and Queers
Come for camaraderie and an open discussion of topics related to GLBT
issues. Topics for discussion include trans 101, sexuality and religion,
sports, and GLBT issues in the news. Everyone is welcome.
Paganism 101
Paganism 101 will explore core elements of Neo-Pagan spiritual traditions. We
will cover the concepts of immanence and the web of life, the Goddess and
the God, the five Elements, energy and healing, light and darkness, life and
death, the ethics of magic, and creating ritual. If you're new to the path,
or have been practicing, please join us in our exploration.
Vegan/Vegetarian Potluck
Pull out your best vegan and vegetarian recipes and get ready to impress.
The vegan and vegetarian potluck group will focus on food and conversation.
The group will work towards compiling their favorite dishes into a recipe
book.
Family Friendly Animal Rights
As Unitarian Universalists social justice is an important part of our faith.
This group will address animal rights in a way that's accessible for
children and encourages families to work together.
Great Questions
Professor John T. Mallan says: "The idea of God is a changing concept shaped
by our selected memories of the past, by our visions of the future, our
sense of participation and especially by the human ability to learn." Each
time we answer great questions for ourselves, we shape ourselves a bit.
Sharing this experience can make it broader and deeper, can help us think in
exciting directions and can be a lot of fun! Though we can share readings
and resources, there will not be any requirements for this group beyond
being open to the group process.
Young Adult Group
Come join other Young Adults from the Society for food, fun and culture. The
Young Adult group will be meeting once a month for movies, dinners, or
anything else they decide will be fun.
A new cycle of covenant groups starts each autumn. If you would like to lead a covenant group contact our Director of Religious Education Nathan Staples.
Past covenant groups have included Almost Master Gardening, Eating and Cooking Locally, Socrates Cafe, Inhabiting Our Bioregion, Banned Books, Factory Tours and Roots and Wings.
